Eleven Imams or Twelve Imams?

Since the Shia religion is a made up religion, and when people makes self made theories, they often err, sometimes the error is fatal, like the case we are going to present.

According to the Shia Cult, the 12 Imams are:

(1) Ali ibn abi Talib (2) Hassan  (3) Hussain  (4) Ali (5) Muhammad  (6) Jafar  (7) Musa (8) Ali (9) Muhammad (10) Ali (11) Hassan (12) Muhammad

According to a large number of Shia tradtions, these 12 Imams will be from the descendants of Ali and Fatima, and according to other traditions, they will be from the descendants of Prophet Muhammad (s). Ali (ra) can be included in Aal Muhammad (s), but he can’t be included in the descendants of Prophet Muhammad (s).

Except the last tradition which is from Bihar al Anwar (author – Baqir Majlisi) , all the other traditions can be found in Usool min al-Kafi (author – Shaikh Kulayni).

First Tradition:

It has been narrated from Zurarah that he said : I heard from Imam Baqir that there will be twelve imams from aal Muhammad (s) , all of whom will be Muhaddath, from the progeny of the Messenger of Allah and from the progeny of Ali, and Messenger of Allah (s) and Ali will be their fathers. Ali ibn Rashid, who was the brother of Ali ibn Hussain (the third Imam) from his mother side, denied it. Imam Baqir became angry and said : Your mother’s son is also amongst them.

As for as how many of members from ahlelbayt doubted this 12 imams list, we will mention in another article inshaAllah. As you can see, Ali ibn Abi Talib is clearly excluded from this 12 Imams list.

Second Tradition:

It has been narrated from Zurarah that he said : I heard Imam Baqir saying : We are twelve Imams, amongst whom is Hasan, Hussain and the rest are from the progeny of Hussain.

Ali ibn Abi Talib is again excluded clearly.

Third Tradition:

Abu Jarud has narrated from Imam Baqir that he said : The Messenger of Allah (s) has said that I and twelve from my descendants and you O Ali, are the pegs and the mountains. When the twelfth from my progeny will die, the earth will collapse and then they will have no time.

As you can see again, twelve persons from the descendants of Prophet (s) are mentioned clearly and afterwards, Ali is mentioned. It means Ali is not included in these 12 persons from the descendants of Prophet (s).

Fourth Tradition:

It has been narrated form Imam Baqir that he said : The Prophet (s) said : From my progeny will be twelve naqeeb, najeeb, mufahham, the last of whom will be the one who will raise the haq, who will fill the earth with justice so much as it is filled with oppression.

Again, twelve imams are from the descendants of Prophet (s). Ali (ra) is again excluded.

Fifth Tradition:

Imam Baqir has narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari that he said : I entered upon Fatima (a.s) and in her hand was a tablet in which the names of awsiya from her progeny were mentioned. I counted them and they were twelve, the last of them being Qaim. Three of them were Muhammad and three of them were Ali.

Here again, as you can see , Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari saw a tablet in which 12 awsiya are mentioned, and they are from the descendants of Fatima (ra). Ali (ra) is of course again excluded from this list of 12 Awsiya.

Sixth Tradition:

Hasan bin Ali said : By God, the Prophet (s) had promised us that this matter will remain in 12 Imams who will be from the descendants of Ali and Fatima , they will die as a result of either being poisoned or getting killed.

Again, Ali (ra) is excluded from this list of 12 Imams.

(Though I personally think the Shia Imams are 11, not 12, not even 13, because we know the names of 11 Imams, but who is the 12th one?)
